realizing love's vision
needs some revision
lots of relationship
a l'il less religion
a lot of decision
a little precision
couple of setbacks
head-on collision
peace takes time
heal that incision
be reconciled
don't multiply division
get that new addition
via subtraction
of all distraction
and inaction
put together fractions
put down factions
overreactions
dissatisfactions
And the two shall become one ...
Now, that's a tough one ...
we are both independent
growing to be interdependent
without becoming codependent
SING "And what we have is much more than they can see". (4X)
learning to pray for
each other's dreams
then to rise and help
make those dreams a
reality
... and for God to change
my heart (not my wife's)
... to speak each other's love language
but also to use a vernacular of
kindness, care, concern, and respect
one that does away with talk like ...
"I'm just kidding",
"I'm just joking", and
"I'm just playing"
'cause "just" is a microaggressive
term of self-justification
that injects a slow-acting
poison into our fellowship
we want our home to be a refuge
of peace and support
to do for each other
even when we don't feel like it
to listen to each other
for acceptance, affirmation,
and understanding
to apologize even when
we were "right"
and to realize that ain't
nobody ever really "right" ...
unless we are both "alright"
to be content in knowing
that she loves Jesus and me
to share our hearts
- I am talking about our
minds, wills, and emotions -
with an even tone
to never break up
and to always make up
the road is long
with twists & turns,
hills and valleys
this leaves lots of time
for mistakes, reflection,
dissection and correction
provision, protection,
decision, and connection
taking that journey together
will lead you to higher,
deeper, sweeter love
I call that "BIG Love"
The song in the background ("Love Ballad" by LTD featuring Jeffrey Osborne) has been one of my favorite "slow jams" since I was 6 years old.
My daddy was a DJ, so - yes - I knew more than I should have about "slow jams".
I discovered the song again this year - for the first time.
I put it on the playlist I use for inspiration when I am working in the studio getting ready to write and record.
I heard it - and watched the video - on YouTube while wearing my monitor headphones ... the ones that let you hear everything in a song.
I was astonished at how calm, cool, and careful Jeffrey Osborne was with this whole song.
It made his delivery that much more powerful.
But then the end (where he is singing the hook and improvising in the background) took everything to another level.
That man was testifying like he had found something higher, deeper, and sweeter than being "all up in his feelings".
I never heard that song in that way until recently, and I guess it is because I had to get to where he was to really feel him.
Well, I am there now.
I love you, baby - and I am forever thankful to you for loving me - in a "BIG" way.
